Word Chain

Participatory Project, dimensions variable, 2016

Presented as twelve booklets, Word Chain is a participatory work in which thirty participants were asked either to describe a word or to summarize a paragraph given by another (the previous) participant. For example:

Apple
-->  A kind of fruit. Red or green. Crunchy.
-->  Pear
-->  A crunchy fruit with a long rounded shape with a waist.

Like “Chinese Whisper,” this special-designed game goes on and on like a chain— from a word to descriptions, from descriptions to a word. In the last installation view, the booklets present word chains starting from words such a “foreigner,” “immigrant,” “citizen” and “newcomer.”

The questionnaire for the participants to fill in.
