We and They

Participatory project and documents, dimension variable, 2016

Starting from the curiosity about how we differentiate ourselves from others, I came across the idea of language use and the cognitive mechanisms it reveals. During the time of four weeks in May 2016, I approached around fifty passersby randomly at public spaces in London, and asked them to write down sentences— one sentence with the word “we” and one sentence with “they.” The outcome was two notebooks filled with characteristic handwritten sentences.

Two notebooks containing respectively “we” sentences and “they“ sentences.
