London Voice Slot Machine (Working Title)
Participatory project and installation, dimension variable, 2019
Accents are like spices added to spoken words. They help us find traces of personal and collective histories with fascinating acoustic qualities. London Voice Slot Machine, an installation which allows the audience to listen to random mixtures of 100 synchronised voices reading the same passage of an article, investigates a constant hybridisation of cultures in a globalised era using a sociolinguistics approach. The voices are prerecorded by the artist with 100 participants in London, a metropole representative of this hybridisation, and then mixed in random proportions through a computer algorithm every time the audience pulls the handle of the machine.
